Lice 101

What to Know

Diagram showing the life cycle of lice, from eggs attached to hairs, hatching in 7-10 days, passing through three nymph stages over 6-7 days, to full-grown lice that mate, with a note about removing lice before they are fully grown, and an illustration of their actual size.

No deep cleaning needed - lice are not like bed bugs. They live in your scalp They don’t live in your home (carpets, couches, or furniture). You do not need to call exterminators, buy sprays/products for your home, or excessively clean your home.  This is not necessary due to lice being a parasitic bug. Lice only live 24-36 hours off the head. Nits or eggs won’t hatch off the head-they need the warmth of the scalp to hatch.

Focus on the head - prevention is about protecting hair, not the home. If lice are confirmed, put hair up in a bun to prevent spread. No need for plastic caps, but you can use one if it gives peace of mind.

Over-the-counter products don’t work - most lice have become resistant to chemical and pesticide treatments. Our method is proven and guaranteed to eliminate lice safely.

Inform close contacts - Encourage friends or family to get checked. There is a high chance of re-exposure if it's kept a secret!

Brush & bun/braids - Brush out everyone’s hair and put it in a bun or braids for a smooth, stress-free start to treatment

Clean hairbrushes - Take all of the hair our of your brushes, rinse with warm water and soap, or place them in a sealed Ziploc bag and freeze for 2 hours.

Wash & dry bed sheets - lice don’t live off the head, but since it’s where people rest most, a quick dryer cycle (15 mins on high) keeps things clean and fresh.
